Meant to sum up the Christian theology that man isn’t perfect, but we’re forgiven; and that rather than trying to become perfect [through legalism], we do our best to do what God loves because of our faith (which entails acceptance of his salvation, and our gratitude for this). [I could continue to expound, but I’ll let you dig into it if you feel like it.] : )
The funny thing about quotes like this is that often they don’t strike people as meaningful until they remember or hear them at just the right time in their life, when they are going through whatever the quote was talking about, and then they go “Aha! So that was what it meant all along…”
