text 8 Feb A Father’s Love

John 3:16-21

16”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

Have you ever just taken some time to think about the love that God has for His people? I was feeding my two month old son today and I was trying to understand what it would be like to knowingly send him into a situation where I knew the outcome meant death for him. As a father my heart breaks at the thought of anything bad ever happening to him! I love the imagery of God giving His son to us! The greek word for gave (δίδωμι-didömi) suggests that God is giving of Himself here, because of his great love for His elect.

God in His infinite wisdom chose to send His son, His only son! to die for your sins and my sins! In your meditations spend some time trying to understand the immense love that the Father has for His children. May you be blessed with the knowledge that the Father loved you so much that he sent His son to die for you.

Peace and Love!
